The starting point of this walk is the magnificent Temple of Olympian Zeus, entry point to the ancient -and modern- city of Athens. But this temple also symbolizes something more important: the mythological birth of the city of Athens. From here, your English-speaking guide will take you to the Theater of Dionysus and then to the Acropolis, to visit the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion, the Propylaea, and of course the wonderful Parthenon. It is here that the most famous ancient myths come to life, around Zeus, king of the gods of Olympus, Athena, goddess of wisdom and protector of Athens, Poseidon, god of the sea, Dionysus, god of wine and theater, and many others. Even more fascinating, you will learn the historical facts behind these myths and why they were invented by the ancient Greeks. Your journey into the past continues in the ancient Agora. It is in this true cradle of democracy that the great philosophers like Socrates discussed the great universal ideas. Here you will also have the opportunity to visit the temple of Hephaestus, the best preserved in all of Greece, dedicated to Athena and Hephaestus, the God of fire and forges. You will relive the stories of Theseus and the Minotaur, of Hera, the jealous wife of Zeus, and of Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty. This walk will also allow you to understand how the city of Athens was born and to follow its development until it became one of the most important cities of the ancient world.
